She provides individual therapy in office and via telehealth to adolescents and adult clients. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish language from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Masters in Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Amanda has clinical experience with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and LGBTQ+ issues. Amanda implements treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Habit Reversal Therapy and Exposure / Response Prevention Therapy. She believes in creating a safe, non-judgmental environment in which you can feel heard, valued, and encouraged.
Amanda is passionate about providing clients help with Exposure / Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), the gold standard treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and phobias. ERP involves exposing yourself to the thoughts, images, objects and situations that make you anxious and making a choice not to do a compulsive behavior or avoid a situation, once the anxiety or obsessions have been triggered. When you begin to face your fears and don’t do the compulsive behaviors, anxiety will naturally drop. This natural drop in anxiety that happens when you stay exposed and prevent the compulsive/avoidant behaviors is called habituation. Rituals and avoidance strengthen the brain's connection between fear and the situation/object and must be confronted to sever this connection. Habit Reversal Therapy is an evidence based treatment for Hair Pulling Disorder (Trichotillomania), Skin Picking Disorder (Excoriation), and other Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). This treatment involves learning to become more aware of when you engage in these behaviors, why, and replacing them with healthier soothing behaviors.

I am an LCSWA and have about twenty years of experience working with all ages and all populations in a variety of settings and using many different therapeutic techniques. I got my BA and MSSW in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University. Before moving to North Carolina three years ago, I worked as a clinical social worker, a teacher and a homeschool parent in NJ and NY.
I believe that psychotherapy has the potential to not only address the difficulties that we experience, but also the potential to help us find a way to integrate healing so that we may experience joy and vitality again - or maybe even for the first time. I am happy to work with individuals, families and couples who are interested in exploring and understanding how they may be able to heal wounds, create stability and forge new and meaningful paths and/or relationships in their lives.
I bring warmth, empathy, keen observation, compassion and an ability to develop working partnerships with clients so that, together, we can focus on and work towards their goals. I treat clients as the unique individuals they are - incorporating therapeutic techniques that are particularly suited to them using my experience and ability to think creatively and outside of the box to help clients meet their goals.
It has been my privilege and honor to assist my clients in making progress and flourishing in ways that are important to them and according to their values. It is my passion to continue doing this work as I enjoy meeting each client wherever they are at, while always keeping my eyes on new treatments in the field so that I can offer the best care possible.
